That's the message this week from Gardien, the UK's No1 online garden security company www.garden-security.co.uk. Not the furry ones, though, who can cause havoc with your lawn and risk to the bird table but instead more likely the opportunist or organised thief preying on the catalytic converters fitted to your car parked on the driveway.
The thefts come at a time of rapidly increasing prices globally for precious metals such as platinum, which is a key component of the converters. In one instance Police in Bedfordshire reported that since the beginning of the month catalytic converters had been stolen from nearly 20 cars. Commercial and tradesmen' s vehicles are also at particular risk if parked overnight on the drive and reports of them being targeted around the country are featuring regularly in the national media.
Bill Seddon, Managing Director of Gardien states, 'This is the second time in as many months when Gardien have warned the gardening public and UK householder of where the increasing cost and short supply of all types of metal is creating a new and costly crime trend. Not content with stealing metal garden furniture, Victorian cast iron urns, metal statuary and anything lead from flashings to ornaments, thieves are now turning to more lucrative pickings including more expensive precious metals like copper and platinum .'
The team at Gardien, which includes a nationally recognised crime prevention expert, recommend that now is the perfect time of the year to review garden and external household security measures. The website www.garden-security.co.uk provides an excellent resource for the gardener and householder including a vast range of crime prevention advice and tips, a FREE downloadable Inventory to assess and value your risks, accredited security products which can be purchased on line and specialist advice on retrieval, valuation and insurance services. For the larger and more discerning clients a specialist consultancy service is also provide.
